The I.E. Weldon Secondary School (IEWSS) Senior Girls Cross Country Team recently competed at the Central Ontario Secondary Schools Association (COSAA) and Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) cross country events.
The team is made up of 18 members of students from Grades 9 to 12.
On October 22, the team competed against other secondary schools in the area at the COSSA Cross Country event in Brighton, Ontario. Overall, the team took home first place, with Kyla Farr placing first, Lucy Stephenson placing second, Ellianne McLaren placing third, and Aven Prodan placing ninth.
As a result of first place at this competition, it meant that the team qualified for the OFSAA Championships! This competition took place on November 1 in Brampton, Ontario, and hosted teams from across the province. The students competed well and finished tenth in the province!
“The girls worked very hard and are a super talented group,” said IEWSS Senior Girls Cross Country coach, Stephanie Campbell. “What’s extra special is that they needed a fourth team member to create a full team, so one of our Grade 9 girls stepped up and ran with the senior girls, which takes a huge amount of confidence — we are so proud of her.”
